Spruce Tree House, Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado, USASpruce Tree House is part of the main Mesa Verde National Park location a quick drive west of Durango, Colorado. It is on the Chapin Mesa beside the archaeological museum.
The walk down can be interesting, but not as interesting as the walk back up to your vehicle given that you are at nearly 8600' (over 2600 m). There are a number of cave settlements in the Mesa Verde area. In fact the World Heritage citation includes Ancestral Puebloan archaeological sites stretching over a significant distance. They were inhabited starting around 7500 BCE but the dwellings were constructed starting around 1200 CE. |
Why were we there - Portfolio based risk analysis and knowledge transferWe were here a couple times, for different reasons over the past few years. The first visit coincided with the construction of a stochastic, multiple prospect resource and economic tool a client had requested. A prominent CBM producer in the Farmington, NM area, they were looking to expand their resource base with some exploration plays in the region.
We adapted their proprietary economic model to take into account uncertainties in resource, production, and costs. We also enabled and facilitated an assessment of the shared risk (dependency) between the prospects. This was a relatively quick project and good decision support was made available to them after only a few days work. The second time we arrived, we were assisting an African company to understand the exploration, development, and production methods for coal bed methane exploitation. Our previous client was kind enough to host a tour of their operations and we provided the regional context, evaluation and decision method. |
