Custom Workshops and Coaching

Experience and Knowledge Transfer

Over 15 different course topics extend from technical assessment to Strategic Management. Our instructors combine their experience with state-of-the-art technical and decision management techniques to design and deliver custom courses for your group. Most of these workshops are typically given within organizations in order to meet the specific needs of the client. They are also available in public form and we are able and willing to teach for commercial entities.

Why are custom courses better? Custom courses target the needs and context of your specific group. We use examples from your data sets, in your work-flow, and targeted to teach the skills and techniques in a manner that allows for immediate application.

Often, clients take advantage of an extra day of project-application consulting. The immediate application of the skills, tools, and techniques provided in the training.

Our instructors are world reknown experts in the topics and have taught cross-cultural groups for more than two decades.

Risk and Uncertainty Management (RUM)

With three around-the-world series of workshops in the last few years, The HCI RUM course has become a standard for several major companies. Every instance is adapted for the client and their culture and in-house experts are encouraged to participate as assistant instructors.

A Management level variant is highly recommended. It spends less time on the tactics and more time in assessing the important questions to ask at the right times in their projects.

Value of Information (VOI)

A two-day workshop that takes a practical application approach through the use of client examples and exercises, This is another HCI course that has stood the test of time and is considered a required course. Most instances of this workshop are followed by a day of specific project application advisory.

Fundamentals of Decision Analysis (FDA)

Decision Analysis is far more than crunching data and calculating. It is a quest for insight and the provision of sound support for operational decisions to broad based strategic efforts. It should also have a component of implementation intertwined from the beginning.

This workshop provides the theory and practice through all five stages of decision support: Discovery, Framing, Evaluation, Decision, and Implementation. It emphasizes the importance of Decision Quality and provides tools and techniques for sound strategy, project planning, and project management implementation.

Advanced Decision Support for Developments and Project Management (DPM)

This workshop teaches Development and Project Management techniques from the perspective of decision making. From project design, critical path assessment, and cost estimation, we journey through the life of a project demonstrating the practical application of uncertainty management principles. Participant receive a stochastic cost and schedule forecast tool as part of the workshop.

Social Responsibility Project Management (SRM)

Social Responsibility is a requirement of nearly every project, yet companies have little experience in putting together a truly stable program that earns them a respected place in the community. It is vital to understand the basics of Power, Commitment, and Influence in conjunction with establishing a common understanding of project and community objectives. Through the course of the workshop we apply strategy and decision support methods to show how participants can create a stable, well accepted, and successful social responsibility program..

Practical Statistics and Method (PSM)

This is not your standard statistics workshop. Generally, professionals seem to dislike even the mention of "statistics". They have only experienced formula rideen, calculation centric courses. We concentrate on discovering insight and understanding how to interpret results from uncertainty estimates and data sets.

Custom Tool Design and Training

When commercial tools are too generic, complex, expensive, or don't mesh well with company culture, Haskett Consulting International will create a custom tool and practical training to fulfill your evaluation, implementation, decision, and strategy support needs. Our background in organizational development and our decades of practical problem solving provides you with advice on design, use, and implementation.

Whether it be a tool that incorproates Oracle Crystalball, Palisade's @Risk probabilistic addins, HCI personnel are well known for their ability to efficiently create custom tools and grow your internal cpability. Allow us to help you create a body of expertise within your organization.

Unconventional Evaluation and Decision Support (UED)

A staple of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists continuing education calendar for nearly a decade, this updated course provides participants with the tools and techniques for opportunity assessment in unconventional resource exploration and exploitation. Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance of a business context and the creation of competitive advantage.

We look at pilot optimization methods that are proven to save time and capital while still providing decision confidence.

Typically a 2-2.5 day workshop, participants will need laptop computers with a reasonably recent version of Microsoft Excel for several of the individual and team exercises.

Strategy and Portfolio Management (SCI)

A unique worshop where we bring together decision makers with analysts to work through practical portfolio management issues and the creation of sound business strategies. Typically a two day course, participants manage and appraise a collection of assets, and learn allocate Time-People-Capital in a constrained environment.

Risk Analysis and Resource Evaluation

There are two different workshops in this category, Standard and Advanced Risk Analysis. We start with reservoir uncertainty and range based estimation. With many interactive exercises we help the participants achieve validity and reliability in the estimation of resource potential. Exercises include map-based work and data assessment.

The advanced course continues the journey into higher level development and exploration decisions, including the effects of dependency and correlation. The basics of Value-of-Information and decision tools are added to the mix.

Development Planning and Cost & Schedule Estimation (CSE)

Cost and schedule work is more than simply collecting budget numbers. We have the opportunity to discover hidden threats to the project whether it be from known risk elements or from the interaction of schedule uncertainties. This workshop leads the participant through a sound method for performing expert interviews, creating comprehensive risk registers, estimating costs and distributions including run rates and delay penalties. From a schedule perspective the participants learn how to create a stochastic Critical Path assessment that identifies both the Critical Path and the near Critical Path elements and their probability of influence.

Management of Non-Profit Organizations (NPO)

Management of volunteers can be somewhat challenging. In this workshop we take participants through the concepts of commitment theory, reward theory, and the basis of power. We also look at organizational structures and the setting of operational and strategic objectives. Role playing and game theory applications are included in the exercises to demonstrate problems and work through solutions.

Oracle CrystalBall (or Palisade @Risk) (OCB)

Oracle's Crystalball and Palisade's @Risk are the two industry leaders in stochastic assessment addins. Both are excellent products but can be intimidating for the users. We break down the process of stochastic assessment and teach distribution basics, input and uncertainty assessment in a way that removes the mystery and is engaging.

Custom Design for Strategy and Decision Support (CUS)

Sometimes you simply need a custom course on a combination of topics specific to your need. Haskett Consulting International is a global leader in the construction and deliver of custom training

Petroleum and Project Economics (PPE)

Every significant project has many moving parts. This interactive workshop teaches project modeling from beginning to end. Based primarily in Excel, we demonstrate how to properly construct a world-class decision support model, how to populate and validate the input, and how to see beyond the number crunching to gain true insight. The models we build are probabilistic and there are very few sources of practical, project based decision modeling education. We are proud to be seen as one of the best in this field.
